The topic given was Web directories. Free and easy. Or is it?
To even comprehend what I'm supposed to be writing about, I hit up the site thats sponsoring the post, (or will be hopefully), a web directory itself known as Jasmine directory.
From an initial glance at Jasmine directory, a web directory looks like a place where one can find many links to areas of interest. For example, I'm a gamer, and I'm interested in gaming related articles or companies. A web directory would seemingly lead me to one.
As the above statement doesn't even make much sense, i decided to hit up good ol' wikipedia gives the following definition
"A web directory or link directory is a directory on the World Wide Web. It specializes in linking to other web sites and categorizing those links."
Ah. It looks like i wasn't too far off the mark. Some of us already use directories such as DMOZ or Yahoo directory.
But wait. Now I'm getting confused. DMOZ and Yahoo directory are web directories. What then, is a business web directory such as Jasmine Directory? A web directory only for businesses?
Another quick saunter to wikipedia brings the following quote
"A Business directory is a website or print media listing of information which lists all businesses within some category. Businesses can be categorized by business, location, activity, or size. Business may be compiled either manually or through an automated online search software."
Looks like i hit the hammer directly on the head =D
Jasmine Directory does have a very professional, business-like feel to it on the first impression. DMOZ and yahoo directory has a rather unfinished or crude look. However, Max directory has got to be the prettiest web directory i have ever seen. The statistics look impressive (though thats probably because i don't know how big web directories are supposed to be?), and it is supposed to be very user friendly, in acquiring and in submitting data. Worth taking another look at at my leisure I think =)
Hmm, this really was an interesting review, giving the bloggers a free hand in creating the post. Hope more of the offers that come in next time would be like this too.
Signing off for now,
David
