Review: Web directories

Now this is an interesting review.

The topic given was Web directories. Free and easy. Or is it?

To even comprehend what I'm supposed to be writing about, I hit up the site thats sponsoring the post, (or will be hopefully), a web directory itself known as Jasmine directory.

From an initial glance at Jasmine directory, a web directory looks like a place where one can find many links to areas of interest. For example, I'm a gamer, and I'm interested in gaming related articles or companies. A web directory would seemingly lead me to one.

As the above statement doesn't even make much sense, i decided to hit up good ol' wikipedia gives the following definition

"A web directory or link directory is a directory on the World Wide Web. It specializes in linking to other web sites and categorizing those links."

Ah. It looks like i wasn't too far off the mark. Some of us already use directories such as DMOZ or Yahoo directory.

But wait. Now I'm getting confused. DMOZ and Yahoo directory are web directories. What then, is a business web directory such as Jasmine Directory? A web directory only for businesses?

Another quick saunter to wikipedia brings the following quote

"A Business directory is a website or print media listing of information which lists all businesses within some category. Businesses can be categorized by business, location, activity, or size. Business may be compiled either manually or through an automated online search software."

Looks like i hit the hammer directly on the head =D

Jasmine Directory does have a very professional, business-like feel to it on the first impression. DMOZ and yahoo directory has a rather unfinished or crude look. However, Max directory has got to be the prettiest web directory i have ever seen. The statistics look impressive (though thats probably because i don't know how big web directories are supposed to be?), and it is supposed to be very user friendly, in acquiring and in submitting data. Worth taking another look at at my leisure I think =)

Hmm, this really was an interesting review, giving the bloggers a free hand in creating the post. Hope more of the offers that come in next time would be like this too.

Signing off for now,

David

Review: Reading ebooks on the Iphone/Ipod touch

Here comes another review, as sponsored by blogadvertisingstore.com

The Iphone and the ipod touch are really wondrous things, capable of many many things. Now that i managed to, for want of a better word, yoink my ipod touch during parkour practice in such a way that i cant plug in my headphones anymore, i essentially have a mp3 player, that cant make a single sound (I'm using an Ipod Touch 1g).

So what do i do with my Ipod nowadays? I use it to read ebooks of course.

My whole family are bookworms. We dont just read books, we devour them. However, the kind of books we like are normally pretty huge (and cost about rm50).

Now, using my Ipod to read books, i can catch up on some reading that i have meant to do for a very long time.

There are many different softwares you can install into your gadget for reading ebooks. My personal favorite is Stanza. Its lightweight, its fast, and it gets the job done.

Stanza has many features, like being capable of syncing (or downloading) my books straight from my computer into my Ipod. No more having to go through Itunes, i can send it over as long as I'm in the same wireless network as my Ipod.

It also has a bookmarking feature, useful when mum takes my Ipod away (to read her... book).

One thing i noticed though is that Stanza has a tendency of hang-ing. Like everything gets stucks and a black screen replaces it. Even though this is rare and is easily solved by pressing the home button, but it is annoying because you lose the page you were on. Hmmm..

Oh, and check this out. Interesting article i found on watches. Hmmm..

Review: Blog advertising store

Check it out check it out..

The other night, when insomnia kicked in (again), i decided to go online to check out how to squeeze more money/benefits from nuffnang.

Guess what i found?

It seems that there are these AWESOME sites, or companies, that PAY you to blog. Yes. They pay you to do something that.. ok FINE i dont blog everyday but i could if i have to! Especially if i'm going to get paid..

The first site i found was blogadvertising.com. All you have got to do is sign up, wait for your blog to be verified, then start getting paid to blog.

Each post seems to pay out in average of about $10, with your blog gaining "experience". The higher experience / "level" you are, the better your pay outs are. AWESOME ISNT IT?

So I bet you're wondering, how do I get in on this? Well, all you gotta do is register. It really is that simple.

And of course, no one should enter a job without sufficient research, so you might wanna check out some of the links on blog advertising from Wikipedia.

I really hope this site checks out. So far, my blog took 2 days to be verified from when i signed up. Today when i checked, about 7 out of 10 possible opportunities (jobs) were available to me. Also, the items listed for review were pretty simple, websites and such. One even asked to review certain online games. Someone pinch me, cause I'm in heaven.

Anyone who is interested yet unsure of whether this site is for real, (as I am, just a little), I'll let you know when (if) i get my first pay out. Heck, you'll definitely hear about it cause i'd probably talk about it for a week. On facebook. And on twitter. And on msn. =D

Phew, i finally hit the word count. Awesome!

Cya'll

2012 Competition

Entered a competition on the movie "2012", from a suggestion from http://www.nuffnang.com.my/blog/ (THANKS NUFFNANG)

It is a pretty interesting competition.

Of course, lets begin with an introduction to the movie or concept of "2012"

The Mayan Long Count Calender ends its 13th baktun (basically a cycle) on the 21st (or 23rd... they are still debating about this) of December, 2012.

While some people welcome the date, as it points to a possible transformation, both spiritually and physically, some rumor that 2012 will begin the Apocalypse.

In the movie "2012", the latter scenario occurs, and its up to Jackson Curtis (John Cusack), a divorced writer with knowledge on Ancient Prophecies to try and save as many people as he can. And survive. yea.

Now about the competition and why i love it so.

www.2012.com.my is holding a TIME CAPSULE competition.

Basically, they want you to upload photos of what you would put into a time capsule, that was survive the apocalypse. And write a slogan, with less than 25 words, on why you chose that item.

Gets you thinking doesnt it? Of course, you get the funny people with oh ill put my girlfriend inside, or hey ill put a dog inside. Etc etc. But if you really think about it, what WOULD you want to be remembered by? What is so important to YOU that you would put into a time capsule?

Interesting huh?

Let me show you my selections. (Oh dont panic if it is all black. You gotta wait till its approved..)

First of all, i chose

As you may know, this is my very first teddy. He has been with me since i was little boy, back in Sungai Lembing. He has brought me much.. joy, and is one of my very few remaining links back to Sungai Lembing... I wish for him to be able to bring joy to whoever finds him after the apocalypse.

I admit. This was a selfish one. If there was limited space in the capsule i would hate myself for doing this. But i would do it anyway. I would immortalize these flowers, for they were a gift to the last girl i met up with before i flew off to France, and who still is important to me, (even tho i recently forgot her birthday... ><) I cant explain why i would want to keep it, but they matter alot. To me.

OK fine this is another selfish one. Inside those little pink bottles are notes, sweet sweet notes. These notes were the things that kept me going even when i was going through hell in France. And this came from (the same girl as above), on her birthday! It was the first gift i got from a girl whose birthday it was. I believe the world will be better if we add a bit of sweetness to it =)

The Sia Family photo. So that no one EVER forgets the Sia family. Nuff said =)

What..... cant a guy be proud of his achievements (and first newpaper cutting about himself ^^ )?

The last photo immortalizes the beauty of a waterfall. If the apocalypse happens as the movie 2012 depicts, i doubt there will be many waterfalls left for anyone to enjoy. And as i love waterfalls, its important for me to retain some bits of the splendour that is a waterfall for the future generations.

Also, i expect that the survivors of the apocalypse will not be able to come up with a system all that fast. Meaning people are going to starve and food productions will be pretty much halted. I wish to give hope to the people that one day, yes one day, food production will be restored to the point where everyone can be, er.. healthy-ly sized =)

And those were my selections. I know, a full half of the pictures are selfish, but hey. These are what i would immortalize.

And now my question is..

What about you?

P.S : Thanks www.2012.com.my for the interesting competition =)

Direct quoted from "500 days of Summer"

Roses are red,
Violets are blue..

Fuck you, whore

A Waste of Money pt2

Day 2 of the competition.

Guess no one told me I paid RM50 for a.. sword fight.

I think the second day was unfair.

Good
  1. Management got better this time. They followed a system so teams knew when they were up and could plan their times better.
Bad

  1. What does a swordfight have to do with a Race? Which is what we paid for?
  2. Some teams, bfs brought their Gfs.. some teams were double girls. Imagine double girl teams going against double guy teams like Jackie and I. Which is what happened. sorry girls you just lost RM50 because you were unlucky enough to draw double guys.
  3. Pacifists who do not want to injure others, but are willing to race, why are you punishing pacifists?
  4. There were 4 umpires. And a referee. So why isnt the referee using the umpires? Unless there was a system that i didnt notice. Because we were watching. Sometimes one flag is enough for a point. Sometimes 2 flags still wont get you a flag. Once, when we were fighting, umpires called 3 Xs and 1 white flag. Referee called for a red point. I was going.. err umpire called white flag. Referee was like I SAW RED POINT.
  5. Did i mention i think the whole game is unfair and.. not very intelligent?
As is probably VERY obvious im very disappointed with this.. event. It saddens me when i was defending the event to my friends on first few days when i was trying to dismiss the disorganize-ness..

To all finalist good luck and beat the rests. To the organizers, i'm sure you'll do better next time. Not sure ill pay for it. But good luck anyway.
